Specialises in

I am a Consultant Upper GI & General Surgeon based at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, with a private practice at Spire Claremont Hospital.

My main interest is in upper gastrointestinal and laparoscopic surgery, with a focus on the management of gastro-oesophageal reflux (fundoplication) and upper GI cancers (including Barrett’s oesophagus). I also have an interest in minimally invasive hernia and gallbladder surgery and day case surgery.

I qualified from the University of Glasgow in 1994 and subsequently trained in surgery in Leeds, Newcastle and Sheffield, as well as a year as a Upper GI Fellow at Concord Repatriation General Hospital in Sydney. I was initially appointed as a Consultant Upper GI & General Surgeon at Doncaster Royal Infirmary in 2007 and moved to Sheffield in 2013.

My thesis entitled “Endoscopic Ablation of Barrett’s Oesophagus” was awarded in 2006 and was the first clinical PhD awarded by the University of Sheffield. I have published extensively in peer reviewed journals and also presented at national and international meetings.

I am the Chair of the Upper GI Cancer Clinical Delivery Group for the South Yorkshire, Bassetlaw and North Derbyshire Cancer alliance, as well as being a member of the Joint Committee for Intercollegiate Examination Question Writers Panel. I am also a National Cancer Peer Reviewer.
